Password Protect Directory in HTML/PHP - Free Script

password protect directory - form

This quick, free script will help you password protect a directory using HTML and PHP on a Linux server. First, use your control panel or .htpasswd to create a password protected directory with the same name as the username. Next, paste the <?PHP...?> to the top of a HTML page and save it as 'login.php' and stick a cleaned up version of the login form portion <FORM>...</FORM> somewhere on your page. Now, when a person enters their username and password in the form, it'll take them directly into the password protected directory. For added security, install an SSL security certificate on your site and use https rather than http. This is a quick and dirty authentification script - there are much better ways of setting up a login, but this will get you started.
